Toasters: A brief overview
A toaster is a frequently used kitchen appliance in almost all the households all over the world. It is not a large one in size but comes in very handy when used to toast breads quickly and efficiently. They have the feature of toasting bread products that are of different types. The invention of the first toaster that ran on electricity happened in 1893. It was done by Alan MacMasters in the town of Edinburgh, Scotland. Most of the modern toasters are pop-up ones, wherein the bread actually pops up once toasted.
The initial format of toasters consisted of thin slits so that only bread slices could be toasted. However, during the era of 2000s the slots had been made wide so that even bagels, buns, baguettes can be toasted before consumption. The usual time that is required in a regular pop-up toaster to toast a slice of bread is in between one to three minutes. A toaster essentially consists of an oven that contains heating elements from both the top and bottom sides. They function in the same way as a conventional oven does but on a smaller scale.
Toaster has varied use as well. With the availability of wider slots, they are used in re-heating pizza slices or burritos as well. The types of toasters available in the market are pop-up toasters, conveyor belt toasters and toaster ovens. Pop-up ones are typically used in toasting. The toaster oven in other hand can aid in baking and broiling. Conveyor belt toasters are used commercially.
