Good and bad carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are the most important nutrient for every person. They could be found in many different kinds of food. The important fact is that there are two types of them, good and bad. You should have a recommended daily intake of carbohydrates, but this doesn’t mean you should eat a lot of food that contains bad carbohydrates. Basically, carbohydrates are known as carbs. The simple carbs are called bad and complex are known as good. The main difference between them are sugar molecules. They are much longer in good carbs, so your body needs more time to digest and absorb them. This provides you more energy for a longer period of time.
Simple carbs consist of basic sugars and they have a low value for your body. The worst carbs you can use are those with low levels of fiber but high on sugar. Carbs from fruits and vegetables are simple (bad) carbs. But they are much different than simple carbs from cakes. Our body processes them slowly, so they act like complex carbs. You should avoid food and drinks that contain a lot of simple carbs. Some of that food is: sugar, soda, artificial syrups, white rice and candy.
It is equally important to pay attention to the glycemic index. It tells you how high and how fast, your blood sugar levels will rise after eating that food, compared with eating pure sugar. This is an example of some food and their glycemic index: white rice (64), brown rice (55), white spaghetti (44) and whole wheat spaghetti (37). Food with lower values is better for you!
